Rules

17th Georgia Camp Rules

1.    No discharging of firearms in camp unless given permission to do so by the company commander.

2.  When in period camp, the company will camp together in a company street as established in the rules for the Army of the Confederate States, 1863.

3.  The company commander or senior NCO present will be in charge of safety and setup of the camps at all times.

4.  All soldiers are required to participate in company activities such as colors, drill, and battle unless they are placed on detached duty or report for sick call.  Furthermore, all soldiers are encouraged to take on a first person impression whenever the company is in view of spectators.

5.  No person will participate in a battle without first having their arms inspected for safety.  Any weapon found to be unsafe will not be allowed on the field, and any person deemed unsafe will likewise not be allowed on the field with the company.

6.  All company members are required to follow the rules and guidelines of each individual event.

7.  When the camp is open to the public, all non period items must be hidden or placed out of site of the public.  This includes cans, bags, coolers, and non-period containers.  If they didn't have it during the war, it doesn't need to be in camp while spectators are around.  Individuals will be responsible for policing their own camp area and the NCO's will be responsible for making sure that the camp is period.

8.  Respect needs to be shown, not only to officers and NCO’s of this unit, but also to officers and NCO’s of other units.  If you have a disagreement with a person of equal or higher rank, wait to discuss it with that person out of site of the public.  Our image as living historians is damaged by open conflict.

9.  The Company, if possible, will drill at every event.  The key to maintaining a high level of readiness and competence is drill.  All soldiers are encouraged to purchase a copy of Hardee’s Rifle and Light Infantry Tactics, Revised Edition and practice the drill on their own.

10.  Failure to follow any of these rules will result in a verbal warning.  If the rules are violated again despite the warning, a written warning will be issued.  If the previous two warnings are ignored and the offense is repeated, the individual or individuals will be expelled from the unit.
